Another Milestone let the work begin!

This morning Youngestround.com went from being a fully functioning yacht (without mentioning a few major issues! i.e. the engine not running, the rig threatening to fall down and at one point sea water flooding in!) to a stripped down hull miles from the water and locked up in a shed. It may sound like we’re going backward at a million miles but today was actually a huge milestone, the beginning of the refit.

Hey Jessica,
Im Cameron, i briefly met you and your team manager at the Sanctuary Cove Boat show. I also share your birthday :D
I Compete in public speaking at school, when i was in year 9 i compiled a speech titled 'Life is what you make it'... basically i reviewed Jessie Martins unassisted circumnavigation. It is quite amazing what can be achieved by yourself, and alone at sea - with hard work, dedication, and self-motivation life really is 'what you make it'.

hallo jessica, now from germany the best wishes for you. i'm a sailor too, but only baltic sea ^^
so i dont can imagine, what you really want to do...sail around the earth like Bernard Moitessier or winfried erdmann (first german solo round)

I've read everything I could find about solo sailing, so I could measure the challenge that awaits you. I've done a lot of solo flying, I reach my destination in a matter of hours and I‘m always busy, but solo sailing seems something that you need to prepare for, especially when there's no wind, your contact with civilization must not be broken by flat batteries. I know I could handle the solitude and you being born on the same day may be the same. We certainly share a lot of interests, although with me fencing is with foils and I assume with you fencing is to keep out rabbits! I was interested to learn about Neal Petersen, not only has he conquered his “Everest” he’s shared his dream and his victory with so many people, he’s turned it into a business. There’s many people like him who do extraordinary things and are then forgotten, how sad!

Hi Jessica,
Last night I saw something on TV that you could add to your exercise program, it was pole dancing, stop laughing! pole dancing is a seriously good workout for the muscles that you may need to develop, the same muscles that you would use when sailing. I'm not suggesting that you should use it as an excuse for not helping with the repairs to the boat, but it's worth a try!

Good luck. Solo around the world in a yacht is a dream I had when I was young. Being fastest though...not the youngest.

This is a massive undertaking and I trust you have seen mental health experts to keep you together in the tough times and the quiet times. Expect the worst and you will be fine.

In 2001 Temba Tsheri Sherpa reached the summit of Everest on May 23rd. He was 16 years 14 days of age. His date of birth is May 9, 1985.
The unanswered questions was Pema Chhiring Sherpa who reached the summit one day ahead of Temba Tsheri Sherpa the youngest for a day?
So Temba Tsheri Sherpa Summit is not disputed and EverestNew.com will accept his age at 16 years 14 days of age when he reached the Summit of Everest.

According to the Nepalese government, the youngest person to climb Mount Everest was a 15-year-old Nepalese Sherpa girl, Ming Kipa and the youngest foreigner was 18-year-old Californian Samantha Larson in 2007.
Youth does not stop determination.

Jessica,
I finally found your boat, you weren’t there, however I met your parents and a friend of yours, they told me the real reason you had decided to sail away, it was to get away from everyone, just joking! I was of the belief that you couldn’t take food with you and your meals would come from the sea, I was going to suggest you could hide 1,000 packets of 2 minute noodles in the mast, if it’s hollow. I discussed with your mother the need to physically prepare yourself for the journey and she told me that it’s under control and part of your preparation. For me, the journey around the globe is easy, I couldn’t bear missing my 3 cups of espresso coffee in the morning. If you’re carrying a full year’s supply of food, what food will it be? Will you have a refrigerator or freezer? How will you stop yourself from eating it all in the first month, just out of boredom? I was hoping to meet you, but I traveled to the show with my brother in law and he was urging me to leave because he said all the boats were starting to look the same! We both loved the cats, all of them.

Jessica,
Yesterday afternoon I phoned the organizers of the boat show to confirm that it was still on and the roads were ok, they told me that it was on but it may be a little uncomfortable, it certainly is uncomfortable when the show is closed! I understand it’s not your fault, you can’t trust people to give you the correct information.
If I’m not able to see you tomorrow, I’m interested to know what physical training you are doing to make yourself as fit as possible for this ordeal. If you are fit and don’t take risks, I see no reason why you can’t complete the journey. When you look at the map, it looks so easy!

Amazing amount of support

Over the last few days I’ve been completely taken aback by the offers of support and encouragement flowing in, its great to know that Australia and the world are right there behind us. Every email and every ‘good luck’ gives me so much inspiration! Thanks everyone so much for your emails, it’s amazing what a few words can do, keep them coming!

Six years ago I rode a push-bike - (a pushie for those in other parts) - from Sydney to Perth.

Four years later it was 14,000 kms around America.

I know this is nothing like the adventure you have before you. But it's that sense of adventure I admire.

I just wish I'd done it at your age when I first thought of riding from Sydney to Melbourne.

(The girlfriend said it was a stupid idea back then, but I made up for it twenty years later!)

I know this is getting off-topic, but having taken a chance, and riding off into the unknown, I know you'll return with so much satisfaction and memories of individual days you'll never forget.

Have the time of your life and have a rest before the next adventure - you'll need it.

Happy Birthday for the 18th Jessica- now you can really set sail! All the best, after reading Jessie Martin and Tanya Aebi's books about their circumnavigation's I really look up to anyone willing to give it a go.
I wish you all the luck, cant wait to follow how your getting on.

Tuesday didn’t start so well after waking up bright and early ready for my first live T.V interview to find that the clothes that I’d carefully picked out to wear had found their way into a car heading in the wrong direction, this mightn’t sound like a big deal but when your'e running on minimal sleep, nerves, sunburnt and your voice is hoarse from far too much talking things become a little more fun! And hey I'm 15 I need to worry about what I am wearing!
