I live on the spit and today the channel 7 chopper landed in our "backyard". By chance I was on my scooter at the time, so i buzzed up to the yachtie and there you were, getting a big send off. Wow! I have heard your attempt, but I never got to see anything you were doing, so it was the coolest thing to see you motor passed me, standing on the end finger, today looking very collected in you thoughts, in a great little boat.

I wish you all the best and I know whatever happens, you will be having one of the best experiences life and the earth can offer.

Just wanted to let you know that there are many who are following your blog, with my family being one of them, not everyone posts, but I would venture a guess that your website is getting many, many hits per day. Not that there hasn’t been enough to keep me busy right here at home, but over the last few days I’ve been thinking a lot about Mike Perham who crossed his finish line in the UK yesterday to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world. There isn’t much I can say, but congratulations! and how excited for you, Mike!

Yesterday was the big day: my first solo sail on Pink Lady since the refit. Well, actually that might be stretching the definition of the word solo as there were up to five cameras aimed at me at one point and I was wired up to a microphone throughout!

Two nights at sea and 250nm dodging shipping was a really good test for Pink Lady and myself. I'm very impressed with how easy she was to handle. Sitting in the cockpit, it felt like everything was right there at my finger tips and perfectly under my control. Everyone's saying it: The S&S 34 is certainly the right boat for the job! And what a great job all the team have done!
I was also pretty happy at the consistent speeds we were achieving. On the second night, with 30 knots of wind and a short swell, we did uncover a few small leaks in the deck. Leaks like this aren't really a safety issue. They just make life extremely unpleasant. It's so nice to know about these problems now while we have the chance to fix them!

We waved Bruce and Jessica off last night and stood watching as Pink Lady's navigation lights disappeared into the darkness under the Southern Cross.
Was a pretty monumental moment.

It’s all action around here, my heads buzzing with a million different things and I’m starting to feel more and more excited. We’re right down to the details and most importantly on Friday we finally went for a sail! It was one of those perfect winter days, wind 15 knots, no sea, blue water, clear skies etc so all round a perfect day for gently testing everything out. All went well but now I’m even more desperate to get out there and do some solo sailing, talk about itchy feet!

Congratulations from Brazil, Jessica. I told my daughters Sara and Vitoria(they are aged 8 and 5) about you and you boat and your voyage. They would not believe me until I showed them some pics form Internet. They loved "Pink Lady"'s color and the whole story, but were a bit worried you'd feel alone without anyone to play with all that time or that your parents would be angry with you if they found out you had gone to the sea all alone... But I told them "driving a boat" is your favorite thing, and that your parents are OK with it and help you; and that you'd take a telephone and radio and would be just fine. I'll be translating your blog for them form now on. Thanks for what you are doing for girls all over the world, darling. Fair winds and goods tides for you is the wish of us all.

Well, I really do hope that you know a little more about electrics than just to push the right buttons and that the use of a spanner holds no secrets to you either. Pink is definitely not my favoured colour and I probably would have chosen a faster ship, but you got to make do with what you get, eh? Nevertheless, it's a very good ship and I'm looking forward very much to following your voyage on the web; All the best wishes to you, never a day of boredom or distress and a safe voyage - I shall be thinking of you when I set sail for the North Sea next thursday.
