Looking at the chart today I actually got a bit of a scare when I realized how close we are to being half way across the Indian Ocean. All going to plan, as of tomorrow we should be closer to Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia, than Cape Agulhas, South Africa!
I keep telling myself that there's still such a long way to go but at the same time I can't help feeling excited about so much HVP (high visual progress). More and more of the familiar shape of Australia is sliding into view on the chart plotter screen as Ella's Pink Lady slowly sails closer.
The weather has calmed down since Tuesday and after dropping right out to hardly anything for a few hours. the wind has settled into a nice steady 20 knots from the North West. It's always slightly frustrating when the wind dies out right after a gale, because there's normally still a big swell leftover. Trying to keep us heading in the right direction with not a lot of wind and quite a lot of wave means a lot of disrupted sleep.
I talked to 'Captain Nick' of the Queen Mary 2 over the satellite phone today as they passed well to the north of Ella's Pink Lady. They were headed from Perth to Mauritius and Nick passed on the best wishes of all the Aussie passengers and left me thinking a little longingly of all the luxuries on board the QM2.
Mike Perham's book about his voyage titled 'Sailing the Dream' was launched today in the UK and Australia. I was lucky enough to be sent one of the final drafts to read (I read the whole thing in a few hours then went straight back to complaining about not getting enough new reading material!) so I can tell you that's it's definitely worth a read.
Oh and I've just heard that Jesse Martin has been nominated for Cleo's Bachelor of the Year in Australia. So for all the girls out there, come on we need your votes on this one!

Cyclone around Mackay, in Qld, where I have 2 sisters. One has been without power for 4 days and it's not likely to be on at their place until next week. They breed them tough in Qld! Darwin, where we are, is hoping for more monsoon weather. Your book title, One Hell of a Sheila, an Oz touch! LOL We wish you great sailing, Little One, cheers, Bob and Bev in Darwin NT.
Been reading you blog and news since you started. Its getting more exciting now that you are getting closer to Australia. Soon you will be in the Southern Ocean and passing West Cape Howe - the most southerly point in Western Australia. We in Albany, West Aust are thinking of you and admire you heaps. You are an inspiration.
You will be remembered for all the effort that you have put in and to think of what you have achieved makes all Australians feel proud. It's not often that such a special individual comes along but you are that special individual with unique qualities, your efforts will inspire many and will be remembered by all. Your life must forever change from such a determined effort by someone so young.

Hi Jessica,
I just realized that I hadn’t written to you for some time. Things have gotten a little busy here, which is really strange for me. I usually have more time than I can handle. I have been thinking of you though. I’m wondering what are you going through out there in the middle of nowhere? How bad of a storm are you in, or are you past it? The last bit of weather that we got from you was three (3) days ago, hint, hint. (Unless you’re busy, then you‘re forgiven).
I do hope things are going well for you, and that you’re not in any bad weather, just some nice sailing wind and flat seas.
Keep up the good work and keep them Scallywags under control.
Looking forward to your next blog……
May God be with you and watch over you and may the angels keep your sails full, and I, I will keep you in my prayers.
Loads of love and hugs, your faithful friend, fan and follower.

Monday here not that it worries you when you are at work 7 days a week! I notice that some guys are trying to sail from the US to AUS in a boat constructed entirely from plastic bottles! They wish to make a statement about the rubbish that is thrown into the oceans around the world which is fair enough....however in a boat(hull) of plastic milk bottles. I would love your professional opinion will they make it or is it just pure folly?.....now that you have covered the distance you have single handed....they have a crew of I think 5-6
Anyway something for you to contemplate as you cruise along writing away....all the best
as always sea ya

Here it is Sunday morning in Washington State, USA. I thought I would pop in to see how you are doing. All looks well with you, I am glad.
I was thinking of the different parts of the world we all live in. Here I am lying in bed; warm and waiting for breakfast. And there you are; by yourself in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
You are having a bit more of an adventure than I am today. :-)
I always enjoy your blog, thanks!
With your bow to the goal may your sails be full.
I hope you are having a great Sunday!
