I’m not normally one to get excited by statistics, but I’m really excited about this one and just had to tell you about it. My book True Spirit has been working its way up the best seller list since the launch and today it was officially announced as the number one best-selling book in Australia, fiction and non-fiction. Wow!!
Thanks again to everyone out there for your amazing support.
The book tour has seen me in sunny (but chilly) Adelaide the last few days. We are off to Perth later today. I’m feeling a bit lazy because with no event scheduled till later today, I’ve spent the morning lounging round in bed reading in between radio interviews. I really should be working on that pile of maths glaring at me from the open suitcase across the room, but have to admit I really needed that sleep in today.
My voice is being a bit of a pain and letting me down badly at the moment. I’m croaking like a frog. And not a cute little green tree frog, a big ugly cane toad! Too much talking. But as much as the book tour has been full on, hard work and of course good fun, I think it was the non-stop chatting, singing and bickering in between events in Melbourne when my sister Emily and Mike joined me for a while. That really did my voice in!
On Tuesday night we had a late one with an event out in the Clare Valley in South Australia (pics below), then a long drive back into Adelaide. Not that I’m complaining, what an amazing amount of enthusiasm from a land-locked town and another lovely event. The crowd really knew the way to my heart, they laughed at even my lamest joke!
Then last night we had a function at the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron with 300 guests which was also nice with so many supporters.
The school events so far have been particularly good fun, because sharing the voyage with people my own age is the most fun of all. I’ve been enjoying the book signings, as I’ve had the chance to meet and talk to more and more people who’ve read the book. It’s been great to get so much positive feedback on it (keep it coming please!). Although I’m also looking forward to seeing independent reviews to see what’s being said behind my back!
Well, time to head off to WA where we will visit Perth and Albany over the next 3 days.
So that’s it for now and more soon.
Jesse

I'am enjoying your book True Spirit you signed for me in Brisbane,Irish Club/4bc.Darrel
WELL DONE! you are such an inspiration..
The book has hit number one and why not. I have read about eighty pages in one go and got into trouble from my children for neglecting them and my house duties. Will finish the read tonight. Again, congratulations on such a well written account of your journey thus far. Once you have moved on a bit you should write a book about your journey after the event, the effects on you and your family, the effects on persons you have met and so on. It will help keep the dream alive. You have probably noticed by now that some of us just don’t want to let you go.
Kind regards, James and family.
Wow ! arent you just doing fine, not that I ever doubted that you would, and as long as you can keep your feet firmly on the ground in spite of all the attention the world will continiue to adore you. Oh, you look very smart in your winter coat, maybe you have to fit in a little modelling of sport type clothing or develop your own range in between studying math and learning to drive and all the rest you try to fit in. Oh, you should not admonish members of the public for finding what you call lame jokes funny because it dont help them or you feel better, and you must remember that so many people just adore your down to earth style and you do have a turn of phrase that lend itself well to humour. Other than that, take care of that throat, there is plenty of germs about that can cause laryngitis, so don`t push yourself too hard and give it time to recover.
Take care
Regards from Niels
