A Massive Week For Jessica

It has been another massive week for Jessica Watson, whose book True Spirit was officially announced as the number one best-selling book in Australia. Since Sunday, the energetic Jessica has visited four states (VIC, NSW, SA, WA) on her book Tour, greeting thousands of fans around the country, many of whom queued for hours for an autograph at the book signing events in each market.
Considering Jessica has suffered from dyslexia, her feat as a best-selling author is just an incredible achievement from this modest, yet inspirational young Australian. Jessica continues to claim she is just an ordinary person, but her feats both on and off the water are truly extraordinary.
In Perth today, Jessica became the newest face of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. Making the announcement prior to one on her popular book signings, Event Chairman, The Hon Ian Campbell announced Jessica Watson as Queensland’s ambassador for the event.
“We are thrilled with Jessica’s appointment, which will assist Perth 2011 reach not only the younger demographic, but also those unfamiliar with sailing and who became interested in the sport by following her journey,” said Mr Campbell.
Jessica expressed her enthusiasm to be aligned with one of the biggest sailing events to ever reach Australian shores.
“Securing the World Championships is a wonderful coup for the sport of sailing in Australia. It’s an honour to be an ambassador for such a prestigious event, which I hope will encourage more people to take up sailing,” said Jessica.
To finish off the week, Jessica flew from Perth down to Albany on the south coast of West Australia, where she gave a speech and presentation at the Town Hall for over 300 fans. The trip to Albany concluded with Jessica climbing the Observation Tower with some friends, enjoying a magnificent, yet windswept view of the town, before flying back into Perth.
Finally, for all the supporters in the US enquiring about Jessica’s book, we are pleased to confirm that it will be distributed nationally there. Jessica will be travelling to New York next month to launch True Spirit on 7 September. Details of her US schedule will be announced soon.
