A Whirlwind Few Days and Jessica Turns 17!
19-May-2010
We would like to apologise for the lack of communication on Jessica’s website since Saturday, which was one of the most amazing days ever seen on Sydney Harbour. Over 1500 vessels sailed alongside Jessica and an estimated 75,000 people packed the Harbour foreshores to welcome her home.
As Jessica said, “I am completely overwhelmed.” I think we all were Jess!
So as you have all probably guessed, all of her shore team have been busy spending quality time celebrating with Jessica, after the euphoria of her spectacular arrival into Sydney Harbour, which stopped the nation and generated massive global coverage.
To the bloggers, please keep posting your comments. There is just a massive backlog that we will get through over the next few days.
Jessica has had a smile from ear to ear since her arrival and is in great shape. She has been surrounded by many family and close friends who have all based themselves at Manly, an idyllic location on the northern beaches of Sydney. Her sea legs have almost diminished (apart from the odd stumble), she has been having good sleeps and is eating well. In fact there has been no shortage of food and chocolate at her hotel!
Today (18 May), Jessica turned 17.
This morning, she indulged in a facial with her sister Emily, before having lunch with her friend and fellow solo circumnavigator Jesse Martin, at the Manly Pavilion, with spectacular views of Sydney Harbour.
Then Jessica celebrated her birthday with family and friends at a private function at the impressive Whitewater Restaurant on the beachfront in Manly. There were 50 invited guests, that included seven time world surfing champion Layne Beachley and her partner Kirk Pengilly of INXS fame , plus James Castrission and Justin Jones (Crossing the Ditch), plus UK solo sailer Mike Perham, to name a few.
A 15 minute highlights video of her voyage was aired prior to dinner and brought tears to many guests in the room.
Jessica looked spectacular in a new red dress and leather jacket she purchased for her birthday dinner (see below). Dessert consisted of a serving of dozens of pink cupcakes!
"I've had the best birthday. It was lovely to share it with so many family and good friends. It was a special night,” said Jessica.
We will continue to keep you updated with the Latest News and Jessica has promised to post another blog soon to talk about her life back on land.
