Jessica and Crew Celebrate Class Victory in Sydney to Gold Coast Race

Jessica has made a good start to her 2011 Rolex Sydney Hobart campaign, by winning the Sydney 38 division of the Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race yesterday, aboard Ella Bache another Challenge.

Skippered by coach Chris Lewin, Jessica and four of her young Sydney Hobart crew gained invaluable experience during the race north and was naturally delighted with the result, crossing the line at 5.05pm (AEST), just 50 minutes ahead of their nearest rival.

“It felt great to be back out on the water again and fantastic to win the Sydney 38 Class, a division that is so tightly contested,” said Jessica.

“This was the perfect way to start off our campaign and I can’t wait until the whole crew assemble in Sydney at the end of next month to commence our full time training,” said Jessica.

After accepting the winner’s trophy at Southport Yacht Club this morning, it is back to business as usual for Jessica, firstly with a trip to Sydney to attend Layne Beachley’s Aim For the Stars Fundraiser on Friday night, followed by a week of touring with the Australia Day Council to Adelaide and then West Australia, visiting schools in her capacity as Young Australian of the Year.

Then Jessica and the same crew from the Sydney Gold Coast Race will convene again for Hamilton Island Race Week in two weeks time, once again on board Ella Bache another Challenge.
